Flu Vaccinations

Protect yourself and your family.
Get a flu shot.

The seasonal flu is more serious than the common cold and is easily transmitted to others.

Everyone should get a flu shot every year.  It can help protect you from getting sick and keep you from spreading the flu to others – especially those at higher risk during flu season, such as pregnant women, the elderly, and people with ongoing health conditions.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that all children 6 months and older and every adult get vaccinated against the flu.

For more information about flu clinic locations and times, call toll free 1-800-KP-FLU-11 (1-800-573-5811).  Flu shots will be available throughout the winter to Kaiser Permanente members only.  There is no cost to members for flu vaccinations.

Flu clinics include preventive services

Flu shot clinics aren’t just about flu shots anymore, as more members will notice this fall. Annually, more than a million members receive a flu shot, so while KP has the opportunity to help members, why stop at flu? At East Bay KP clinics, when members register for the flu vaccine, they will be reminded about other preventive services that are due such as Mammograms and FIT testing.

“From the member perspective, it’s incredibly convenient to receive multiple services at one drop-in visit—your flu shot and screening or referral for colorectal, cervical, and breast cancer,” said Lisa Brill, MPH, MPP, KP’s regional flu shot clinic manager. “Some people might not come to the clinic except for their annual flu shot, so this is our opportunity to screen them while we can.”

Many of KP’s flu shot clinics already have been offering home colorectal cancer screenings, also known as fecal immunochemical test (FIT), to eligible patients. KP members between the ages of 50 and 75 who are due for a screening are given a FIT kit and are encouraged to complete the potentially life-saving test before the end of the year.
