The Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery (NICU) at Kaiser Hayward is a 16 bed Level III intensive care nursery. Overseeing your child's care will be one of our four neonatalogists, who specialize in high risk neonates, and who will work closely with other disciplines (ie. opthamology, nutrition, medical social work) as a team to provide the best medical care available. The Kaiser Hayward NICU is staffed with a group of highly trained, dedicated Registered Nurses who will provide around-the-clock care for your baby. Our nursing staff is dedicated to assuring your child grows in a developmentally-supportive environment. You may see quilted isolette covers, mobiles, dim lighting, and designated quiet times as specific means to achieve the very special care that your baby deserves.

Visiting:

    * Parents of the neonate are welcome to visit any time.
    * For security reasons, ALL visitors to the NICU are required to sign in at the receptionist's desk before entry to the NICU.
    * For confidentiality reasons, all parents are asked to leave the NICU for a short time during shift report and rounds.

Other family members may visit WITH a parent of the neonate,during normal hospital visiting hours, and only 2 visitors are allowed at the cribside. Again, all visitors will be asked to sign in at the receptionist's desk.

Please note that cell phones ARE NOT permitted at any time on the entire second floor as they may interfere with our monitors in the NICU and Labor and Delivery.
