Perioperative Medicine (POM)
Perioperative Medicine (POM) provides services by preparing patients for surgery in all surgical specialties supported by Fremont, Hayward & Union City requiring care in the Inpatient, Hospital Ambulatory Surgery (HAS), and Ambulatory Surgery Department (ASD) surgical venues.
Perioperative Medicine (POM) is composed of nurse practitioners, hospital based specialists, management staff and medical assistants with anesthesiologist oversight. The purpose of POM is to complete preop history, manage medical condition(s) and perioperative medication(s) of the patient to optimize their health prior to surgery. We are a referral department. Your surgeon specifies whether your appointment will be a telephone or an in-person appointment.

concerns your prearations for your upcoming surgery. It is very important that you review the information to be better prepared. It is also very important to keep your consultation with the POM clinic either by phone or in-person.

If you want to cancel or change the date of your surgery, please call Surgery Support Services at 510-675-5111. Surgery Support Services is available M-F from 9:00 am - 5:30 pm.
If you need to change your preop consultation, please call Perioperative Medicine (POM) at 510-784-6233. POM Clinic is available M-F 8:30 am - 12:30 pm and 1:30 - 4:30 pm.
If you need information about post-op care including any work leaves, please call your surgeon’s office.
