Diabetes Basics
You can feel better and be active and healthy when you learn the basics of managing your type 2 diabetes. In this class, we give you an overview of the four key areas of diabetes management: healthy eating, exercise, monitoring your blood sugar level, and proper use of medication. Open to Kaiser Permanente members only. Available in Spanish, Cantonese, and Madarin.
Union City: If you need instructions for using a monitor, be sure to sign up for the “Home Blood Glucose Monitoring” class.
Fremont: Home blood glucose instruction is included in this “Diabetes Basics” class. Please bring your glucose monitor with you.

Diabetes Basics (Chinese)
Learn basic self-management skills, how to monitor blood glucose at home, what kind of complications may arise, and how to prevent them. Discover how to control diabetes through healthy eating, medications, physical activity, and stress management. By referral only from your health care practitioner. Open to Kaiser Permanente members only. Available in Cantonese and Mandarin, alternately.

Living Well With Diabetes
Once you have learned the basics of diabetes self-management, you are ready to advance to the next level. In these sessions, we take an in-depth look at diabetes and recommended care. You will learn new skills for making good food and exercise choices, bringing your blood sugar back into range, and handling the stress and emotions related to diabetes. You will also learn how good blood sugar control and proper use of medication can help prevent diabetes complications. It’s recommended that you take the “Diabetes Basics” class first. “Living Well with Diabetes” is also offered as a teleconference class. Open to Kaiser Permanente members only.

Living Well With Diabetes (Teleconference class)
This is a telephone-conference class. Call in to speak to the instructor and other members just as you would in a classroom. You will learn and apply the same information as from the on-site version of the class, including avoiding complications, self-management skills, and more. Open to Kaiser Permanente members only.

Diabetes Nutrition
Are you ready to learn more about how to develop eating habits that work for your lifestyle? Get tips on planning meals, counting carbohydrates, and reading food labels. Learn new ways to prepare your favorite foods and enjoy eating out. With smart planning and balanced choices, a healthier lifestyle can still taste great. It’s recommended that you take the Diabetes Basics class first. Open to Kaiser Permanente members only

Home Blood Glucose Monitoring Workshop
Learn the proper ways to monitor your glucose at home. This workshop focuses on the equipment, its use and maintenance, and how to record and use the results. Be sure to bring your blood glucose monitor to class. Open to Kaiser Permanente members only.

Prediabetes and You
Preventing or delaying the onset of diabetes begins with a healthy lifestyle: eating right, exercising regularly, and knowing the facts. This class will help you take charge of your health and learn how to reduce your risk of diabetes and its complications. Together with advice from your doctor, we are here to help.
