Medical Weight Management (Optifast) Program
This program is for people who are significantly overweight (i.e. 40 pounds or more overweight) and/or for people who suffer from other conditions related to their weight.
Medical problems related to obesity include heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and sleep apnea. Losing weight can alleviate some of these problems, increase energy and help us live longer, healthier lives-while also providing you with the right tools to keep the weight off long-term. In the Kaiser Permanente Medical Weight Management program, we follow a comprehensive approach to obesity treatment. To help you lose weight rapidly and safely, this program uses the Optifast® meal replacement system, coupled with a focus on nutrition, lifestyle and activity education. Optifast® has over 30 years’ experience in helping people lose weight. The shakes and bars are healthy, provide full nutrition, and have been shown to aid in weight loss.
This service is provided by highly trained health care professionals. This program is an elective service and is not covered by Health Plan benefits. All program participants must be willing to commit to at least 30 weeks of weekly meetings.
