Kaiser Permanente Fremont and Hayward Medical Centers Recognized for Green Health Care Practices
The Fremont and Hayward Medical Centers were named winners of an award from Practice Greenhealth, a national organization that promotes green practices, construction and resource conservation in health care.
The Fremont Medical Center was cited with a "Partners for Change" award, and Hayward Medical Center was recognized with a “Partner Recognition,” for starting an environmental-stewardship program and achieving at least a 10 percent recycling rate for solid waste. The “Partner Awards,” for the Fremont and Hayward Medical Centers are two of 29 awards received recently by Kaiser Permanente facilities around the country, 15 in Northern California. Read story.
Kaiser Permanente Leads with Most 5-Star Medicare Health Plans for 2012
Kaiser Permanente Medicare health plans in California, Northwest, Hawaii, Colorado, Mid-Atlantic States, and Ohio earned five stars — the highest overall rating for quality and service — from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
This is the second year CMS has awarded Kaiser Permanente the only 5-star rating for excellence in care and service in California. Only 11 plans in the entire country were given all five stars. KP’s Medicare plans in California again have received an overall rating of 5 stars for Parts C and D, the highest rating possible from CMS. Read more.

Kaiser Permanente Hayward Medical Center Recognized for Nursing Performance Excellence
The Hayward Medical Center was recognized by CALNOC (the Collaborative Alliance for Nursing Outcomes) as an exceptional hospital for outstanding performance in the areas of reduction of hospital acquired pressure ulcers and injuries from falls.
The Hayward Medical Center, along with the Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center in Los Angeles, was chosen from among almost 300 hospitals to receive the CALNOC Performance Excellence Award. This recognition reflects our medical center’s commitment and dedication to nursing quality. It also means our hospital has improved but sustained its performance consistently over 24 months.

Fremont and Hayward Graded Safest Among Hospitals Nationwide
The Kaiser Permanente Fremont and Hayward Medical Centers were among the 15 Kaiser Permanente hospitals in Northern California to be honored with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.

Investing in Our Communities: Kaiser Permanente Expands Care for Children in Alameda County, New Inpatient Pediatric Center to Open in Oakland
Kaiser Permanente is making a significant, $2 billion investment in the health, economy, and well-being of Alameda County and the East Bay with the building of the new Kaiser Permanente San Leandro and Oakland Medical Centers, resulting in new hospitals, expanded services, and 24-hour emergency services open to the community.
Both set to open in 2014, together these medical centers will offer the full range of care and expertise for our members. As a result, pediatric services will expand when the Kaiser Permanente San Leandro Medical Center opens, adding to the care we provide for children already located in Hayward, Fremont, Oakland, and Alameda. This includes labor and delivery and expanded Level 3 neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). More information about our expanding care for children
