Stroke Centers Earn Gold
Our Sacramento and Roseville Medical Centers have climbed the pedestal to take the gold medal this year in the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines quality program.
Get with the Guidelines is designed to improve patient outcomes and save lives by promoting evidence-based treatment for patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure, and stroke. Our Stroke Centers in Roseville and Sacramento were awarded the gold medal for maintaining performance treatment guidelines in certain key measures for more than two years. Last year only four California hospitals earned a gold medal.
“This award recognizes the cheerful hard work and dedication of so many people,” said George Palma, MD, APIC, Stroke Center director. “When I realize that we started the Stroke Center a mere three years ago, I am gratified to have come so far in so short a time. Our patients are the beneficiaries of this wonderful collaboration.”
“We are so incredibly proud of our team, the care that has been provided to our patients, and to be a part of this elite group of gold-medal winning hospitals,” said Sandy Sharon, RN, COO, Roseville.
Conducting multidisciplinary rounds in our stroke centers is just one example of how we have achieved such a high level of quality care for our patients. The rounds, done every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, allow teams to talk with patients and their family members, giving them clinical updates and ensuring that they understand their care plan. Patients and family members are given the opportunity to ask questions to the specialists and care providers, making the whole experience more interactive and helpful to the patient.
“It’s teamwork that makes us so successful,” said Susan Brenden, RN, manager of 1st floor, Roseville. “The dedication of our physicians and nursing staff
is very special.”
“The commitment of all our staff in the stroke unit is exemplary,” said Debra Gold, RN, E Station manager, Sacramento. “They receive acknowledgements from our patients and their families—it’s an honor to work with such an outstanding team.”
