South Bay Community Benefit Grants Program
Our local Community Benefit grants program supports programs and organizations that are working to address the health needs of our most vulnerable residents.
Through partnerships with community organizations and government entities, Kaiser Permanente strives to benefit the community by addressing issues and concerns that affect overall community health. These partnerships are built on the sharing of knowledge and resources between Kaiser Permanente and health-related community service organizations. Kaiser Permanente brings a variety of resources to these partnerships: cash grants to support community activities, volunteers, and in-kind donations.
Kaiser Permanente South Bay has identified priority health and social needs that impact the lives of vulnerable populations through a community needs assessment that is conducted every three years. These priorities provide the basis for the Kaiser Permanente South Bay Community Benefit Program and guide the distribution of contributions to the community.
Kaiser Permanente identified the following priority needs in Santa Clara County for 2015:
1. Healthy Eating/Active Living
- Increase knowledge and skills about healthy eating among children, youth and adults
- Increase access to healthy foods
- Increase motivation and access to physical activity among children, youth and adults
- Increase healthy eating and physical activity among children, youth and adults
2. Behavioral Health (Mental Health and/or Substance Abuse)
- Improve self‐care and coping skills to manage stress, depression, and mental health among youth and adults
- Increase family functioning, especially the practice of positive parenting
- Reduce alcohol and drug use among South Bay youth
- Increase access to trauma‐informed mental health care
- Improve self‐care and coping with stress among youth without the use of violence
- Improve healthy relationships between family members in terms of engagement and connection
- Create safe environments where children go to school and people live and work
4. Access to Health Care Services
- Increase access to health care services for low-income and uninsured individuals
We are now soliciting electronic applications for our 2015 South Bay Community Benefit Grants Program. We will consider requests from organizations that serve underserved populations in the South Bay, with the exception of Palo Alto, which is within the Kaiser Permanente San Mateo hospital area.
Application Process and Timeline
We will consider requests from organizations that serve underserved populations in the Kaiser Permanente South Bay area, which includes Gilroy to Mountain View. For services in Palo Alto, please contact the Kaiser Permanente San Mateo area.
Starting in 2015, we have instituted a two-phase grant review process: Phase 1 – submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI) on the required form; Phase 2 – after the LOI review, applicants will receive notification of either an invitation or declination to submit a full grant proposal.
Currently, our 2015-2016 "Letter of Intent" process is closed.
