Vasectomy
Vasectomy is a sterilization procedure for men. During a vasectomy, we make two small incisions to seal the vas deferens (the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles to the penis). After the surgery, the penis will function normally, but the liquid that is ejaculated will no longer contain sperm.

This is an outpatient surgery, and we will administer medication to help with pain management and relaxation.
Risk of pregnancy
This is a very effective method of birth control. The risk of pregnancy if a man has a vasectomy is less than 1 percent.
Advantages
- This is an effective method of birth control.
- This is a simple, safe procedure, and does not require full anesthesia.
- It's permanent: you and your partner never have to worry about birth control again.
Disadvantages
- Vasectomies are not effective right away: your partner may still ejaculate sperm for several weeks. If you resume sexual activity right after the procedure, you'll need to use a back-up method of birth control for about a month.
- Before you stop using a second method of birth control, your partner must come in to have two sperm count tests to make sure the procedure was effective.
- It's rarely reversible: if your partner changes his mind we may not be able to successfully undo the procedure.
