Dr. Fuensanta Botello's Volunteer Efforts Benefit Patients and the Community

Jan 11, 2008

Fuensanta Botello, MD

Dr. Fuensanta Botello draws upon her unique life story to help patients in her psychiatric practice at the Richmond facility and in her volunteer work. Having come to this country from Franco’s Spain, she uses her own experience as an immigrant to relate to her patients, many of whom are new to the United States. A mother who had a second child while she was in medical school, Dr. Botello has worked tirelessly over the years to improve health care for women in the community, successfully organizing a clinic and volunteering in it to provide medical care. Deeply respected for her work supporting colleagues under stress, she contributes actively to the Physician Wellness program and volunteers for the California Medical Association. As a leader of the Richmond Ethics Committee, she serves as a mediator for patients and physicians alike. Her colleagues especially admire her for successfully empowering others.
