Background

I was born and raised in Minnesota.  I graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1982.  Then I moved to California where I did my pediatric residency at Children's Hospital Oakland (1983-86) and my Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Stanford (1987-1990).  I have always had an interest in international medicine and have had the chance to work in the DR Congo and Liberia in Africa; Thailand, India and Indonesia in Asia; and Haiti and Chiapas in North America.  I remain committed to spending some of my time outside of work serving both our local communities and abroad through non-profit work.

My wife LaNelle and I have a blended family of 4 children- Evan (born 1991), Carrie (1992), Colin (1993), and Laura (1995).  We enjoy travel, trying new restaurants, and walking with our dog at Lake Chabot.
