Professional

Background

My specialty is Gynecologic Oncology. This specialty concentrates on the surgical and medical treatment of cancers of the female reproductive tract. Most commonly these are cancers of the ovary, uterus or cervix. In addition to a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncologists have to undergo additional training (a fellowship) to learn advanced gynecologic surgery and the management of chemotherapy and associated medical issues.

I chose this specialty because it allows me to help people during a difficult point in their lives. Facing the possibility of cancer can be scary and overwhelming. I strive to treat the whole person and explain medical facts so that you understand your condition and can be an active participant in your treatment. Additionally, because Gynecologic Oncologists are trained in both the surgical and medical management of these cancers, I can provide "global care" for most of my patients.

I am a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Western Association of Gynecologic Oncologists, the Massachusetts Medical Society and the Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association. I have also written articles and given presentations in the field of Gynecologic Oncology.

Though I was was born in Italy, my family moved to New York City when I was a child. I moved to California to advance my medical training and eventually settled here when I had the opportunity to be part of Kaiser Permanente.

Other languages: Fluent in Italian
