I was raised in nearby Cupertino and attended Monta Vista High. I went to college at UC Berkeley and then completed medical school at The Ohio State University, where I received the Outstanding Medical Student Award in Otolaryngology upon graduation in 2005. I returned to San Francisco and completed both my general surgery internship and residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at UCSF, where I was awarded numerous research grants and the Shirley Baron Triological Society research award. Thereafter, I spent one year in Boston at Boston University and completed a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with Dr. Jeffrey Spiegel.
I am thankful to have the opportunity to return to the Bay Area and I am extremely excited to join our Head and Neck Surgery team here in Santa Clara (2011). I have had the privilege of training and working with outstanding mentors and my experience has taught me the importance of a strong and honest patient-physician relationship. I feel it is my duty to be both a patient advocate and educator.
My special interest focuses on facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. I feel my passion in photography greatly complements my skills as a surgeon. The technical aspects of surgery and the surgical creativity involved in assessing the patient and developing a surgical treatment plan poses the ultimate challenge. As in photography, where subtle differences in contrast, composition, and depth of field can radically alter the feel of the picture, subtle variations in clinical judgment of a facial plastic surgeon can similarly influence the final surgical result, sometimes in a dramatic fashion. Ultimately, form and function is of paramount importance. This is the challenge I enjoy.
I have authored and co-authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters in both Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery.
