Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a neurologist?

Neurologists are doctors that diagnose and treat problems of the brain and nerves.

What kind of problems does a neurologist see?

We often see patients with strokes, seizures, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, migraines and a wide variety of other neurological conditions.

How do I see a neurologist?

If your personal physician feels you have a neurologic condition, you might be referred to a neurologist. Your neurologist will perform tests, give advice, and sometimes prescribe medication. Often we function as a consultant to your primary care physician. However, for some chronic neurologic disorders we will continue to follow and treat you along with your primary care physician.

What is the difference between a neurologist and a neurosurgeon?

A “brain surgeon” (also called a neurosurgeon) performs surgery to treat certain neurologic problems. Neurologists do not perform surgery.

Where do I bring my forms?

If you have paperwork that needs to be filled out by a neurologist, please bring the forms to the Business Office (Dept 160), downstairs on the first floor.
