I have two areas of specialization: breast cancer surgery and vascular surgery, which might seem an odd combination. In the past I did the full spectrum of general and vascular and trauma surgery, but as I've specialized, I now only do breast and vascular surgery.
My interest in breast cancer surgery has grown since the late 1990's and for the past eight years has been the majority of my practice. I have taken advanced training to learn the most current techniques of performing "oncoplastic" surgery -- combining techniques of surgical oncology and plastic surgery. Most importantly, I am committed to compassionate care of the breast cancer patient, and am pleased to have the role as a leader in the breast program at Santa Rosa Kaiser. In June 2011 Kaiser was awarded the distinction of being accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a recognition by the leading national organizations involved in breast cancer care. Kaiser is the only accredited breast program in Sonoma County!
The second part of my practice is vascular surgery. My vascular training at UCSF was superb, and I maintain my vascular practice, treating disorders of veins and arteries. I started the minimally invasive procedure for treating abdominal aortic aneurysms in Sonoma County, and I enjoy the procedure for endovenous treatment of varicose veins.
The operating room is a place where I find intellectual and technical challenge.
I also love seeing my patients in the office, because I treasure the bond that I form with my patients.
