Background
I have been an OB/GYN physician with Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center since 1971. As I am in a facility administrative position, my medical practice is now limited to office gynecology.
My passion is cooking with the best and freshest ingredients. I established the Friday Fresh Farmers’ Market at the Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center in May 2003, featuring growers who are approved by the California Certified Organic Farmers’ Association. There are now 39 markets at Kaiser Permanente facilities in 5 states. While my primary focus continues to be my work at the Oakland Medical Center, I am working with others in and outside of Kaiser Permanente to bring fresh, local, sustainably farmed fruits and vegetables to the inpatient setting, the cafeterias and to other Kaiser Permanente buildings and non-Kaiser Permanente worksites.
I enjoy some sports and participate in a monthly men’s poetry group.
My wife, with whom I‘ve shared life for over 40 years, is a landscape designer. My son trained as a chef after finishing college and is now finishing medical school. He will pursue a career in adult primary care. My wife, son and I spend time together in the kitchen whenever we can.
