Having a nursing background and being a birth mother to three children, I believe that I can share with you insight into the emotional issues of pregnancy and childbirth. I have a strong interest in “natural” and low technology approaches to pregnancy and birth while also possessing the training and experience to engage in extensive intervention when necessary. I am comfortable negotiating the least intervention necessary while advocating necessary safety. I am available for consultation and also see women during their pregnancies that are at significant risk of problems during pregnancy.
I am a second generation Californian, born in Glendale. I hold an AA degree in nursing from Pacific Union College and a BA in nursing from the University of Redlands as well as my Medical Degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine (1979). I completed an internal medicine residency with additional training as Chief Resident, at Loma Linda University. After practicing internal medicine for 2 years, I returned to training for an obstetrics and gynecology residency here at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara. I completed a maternal fetal medicine fellowship at Stanford University before finally joining Kaiser Santa Clara as a full-time staff physician in November, 1984. I speak very limited Spanish but have a strong interest in improving both my grammar and vocabulary.
My particular areas of professional interest include medical problems in pregnancy, obstetrical problems and ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis. In addition to clinical practice, I have had experience in medical research, publishing several articles in professional journals, and in various administrative roles. I have participated in the development and implementation on postpartum guidelines, and served as the chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Kaiser PermanenteSanta Teresa and Santa Clara. I am currently the medical director of the Regional Perinatal Service Center.
I want to be certain all of your concerns are addressed. If you forget to ask a question during your visit, you may leave me a message at (408) 851-3570. Either, I, or my medical assistant, will return your call.
