Profile

NOTE:  The health and safety of our members is always our top priority. To focus our resources during the pandemic,  we have temporarily changed available services at certain medical centers. Go to kp.org/coronavirus for the latest.

Also, If you haven’t done so already, I encourage you to become a registered user on kp.org so that you can access care while remaining in the safety of your home (kp.org/register).  Whether it is getting mail order prescriptions, having virtual visits, or sending secure messages, our mobile app helps us remain connected at all times, but especially during this critical period.

As a Kaiser Permanente psychotherapist, I am part of a large group practice focused on quality care that is evidence-based and patient centered. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2005 and am supported in the care I provide by a team of excellent physicians and other mental health professionals and by a state-of-the-art, secure, electronic medical record. I believe this helps us make informed decisions, which result in the kind of quality health care that enables our patients to thrive.

I am a licensed clinical professional counselor with licenses to practice in Maryland, Virginia, and DC. I have an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Virginia and a graduate degree in counseling psychology from Bowie State University. I have been a practicing psychotherapist since 1995, with experience providing care in various local and federal agencies, schools, and health care systems.

I am skilled to treat individuals struggling with many life issues such as grief, work stress, relationship stress, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, spirituality, and women’s issues. I have specialized skills in treating individuals with anxiety, depression, women’s issues, and trauma. My theoretical framework consists of a holistic approach and integrates key components of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), solution focused therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), accelerated resolution therapy (ART), and mindfulness. My specialty areas include women’s issues, trauma, anxiety, and depression.

Psychotherapy, or counseling, is a nonpharmacologic (non-medicine) treatment for mental health problems. During therapy, I work with members to understand and work through problems that are negatively affecting daily activities. Overall, the goal is to help individuals live a happier, healthier, and more productive life.

What My Patients Say

Mrs. Young was a godsend for me. I was dealing with some mixed emotions as a caregiver for my parent and dealing with my own chronic illness. Mrs. Young provided an environment of relaxation and friendliness. She helped me more than she may have realized. Thank you, things are so much better. - CM
