Profile

I was born in Washington, DC and have lived in the area most of my life. I received bachelors of science in biomedical engineering at Johns Hopkins and went on for a masters of public health from Columbia University.

After completing my residency in internal medicine, I led the rapid response team (hospital emergency response and cardiac arrest team) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. I then completed a fellowship in cardiovascular disease. During the past decade I have also had an interest in global health and have served at volunteer medical clinics in Bolivia and rural India. In August 2010, I returned to Maryland to be with my family and started working with the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group.

I believe that empowering patients with accurate knowledge of their medical conditions and treatments helps them maintain their overall health. I also believe good patient care requires easy access to doctors and staff, as well as collaboration between primary care doctors and specialists. Finally, I believe delivering proven medical treatments according to guidelines can save lives and help prevent cardiovascular disease.

I have a passion for prevention of cardiovascular disease and have given lectures on the treatment of high cholesterol in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. In March 2013, I gave a presentation on behalf of Kaiser Permanente to 130 institutions and hospitals across the nation, regarding "Hypertension Guidelines and Adherence" for the American Medical Group Association. I have also been interviewed by Fox 45 News a few times. Here are the clips: http://vimeo.com/116281892 and http://vimeo.com/101312397

I firmly believe that Kaiser Permanente is the model for health care in our nation. I love practicing here, where I know all of my colleagues are working together to focus on delivering excellence in patient care. It is a pleasure to have electronic records where I can review CT scan images that are completed 15 minutes prior to the visit, electronically order medications and blood tests, and directly communicate and email with my patients. Most importantly, I love the coordination of care between numerous specialists, primary care doctors, hospitalist physicians, pharmacists, and nurses -- because everyone is sharing the same medical record. I am proud to be a part a health care system with nation-leading control of blood pressure and consistent focus on not only treating disease, but preventing it.
