Profile

As a reconstructive surgeon and member of your care team, my goal is to help you achieve the best quality of life possible. I am passionate about reconstructive surgery and providing a full range of reconstructive options to you, tailoring treatment to your individual anatomy and personal preferences. My interests include breast reconstruction, breast reduction, soft tissue reconstruction after cancer removal, craniofacial surgery, abdominal reconstruction, and microsurgery. I believe in working with you to maximize function and appearance, while adhering to sound surgical principles and safety.

I was born and raised in the Midwest in Bath Township, a community between Akron and Cleveland, Ohio. I initially thought I wanted to become an engineer, and earned my undergraduate degree in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.). I enjoyed engineering and scientific research, but I decided to enroll in medical school because I wanted to apply these design and scientific principles to improve human health. Also, coming from a family of physicians, I really enjoyed the doctor-patient interaction. I attended Harvard Medical School, where I fell in love with surgery and human anatomy. As someone who has always enjoyed sketching, I found that plastic surgery allowed me to apply science and design but with an artistic touch, and decided to pursue a residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery. I completed the six-year Harvard Plastic Surgery Training Program, where my training included a broad range of reconstructive and aesthetic surgery from head to toe. I also engaged in research in areas ranging from breast reconstruction to burn reconstruction.

The thing I love most about my job is being able to tailor reconstructive techniques to your individual problems. I believe in making you, the patient, the center of the decision-making process by explaining your surgical and nonsurgical options in the clearest way possible. Being a Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group physician allows me to focus on these important goals, and I am supported by the best primary care doctors and specialists who help me provide the best care possible every day.

He is a wonderful doctor. He listens to every concern that you have and always gives his professional opinion. He is warm and friendly and puts you at ease. I could not have asked for a better person to be a part of my health care team. - DB

Dr. Kantak is the best doctor that has ever performed surgery on me ... He expressed genuine concern, and took the best route of safety and performance as should any doctor in his field of profession. I will definitely recommend anyone to Dr. Kantak for the best of care and quality. - JD

Dr. Kantak performed breast surgery on me a few months ago and he was the best surgeon I ever had. He was very professional and explained everything to me during my pre-op and post-op and continued to monitor my recovery .... I'm glad that I got to have my surgery performed by Dr. Kantak this time around and I would recommend him to anyone. Kaiser Permanente is blessed to have him. - TK

I just wanted to say that Dr. Kantak is the best plastic surgeon. I really recommend [him]. - LR
