Profile

I joined the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group in March 2009 after spending over 2 years in private practice following the completion of my surgical residency. This multi-specialty group practice allows me to provide the most comprehensive, integrated care possible. Our HealthConnect electronic medical record provides me with instant access to a complete and thorough record of your health, allowing me to provide coordinated care with your primary physician and specialists that simply is not possible in any other health care delivery system.

As a podiatrist, I have a special interest in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, as well as diabetic limb salvage. I completed a 3-year surgical residency, receiving extensive training in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery. I am experienced in the use of external fixation and the Ilizarov technique for deformity correction, as well as plastic reconstruction of the foot and ankle. I was trained in a multidisciplinary approach to diabetic limb salvage, performing procedures to close chronic wounds, eliminate deformity, and prevent major amputation in the diabetic patient. In spite of my surgical training, it is my strong belief that education, thorough multidisciplinary care, and healthy lifestyle choices can prevent the need for surgical intervention for our diabetic patients.

It is my goal to make you better; to allow you to live a healthy, pain-free life. As a doctor, I feel it is my responsibility to educate you on your medical condition. I want you to understand and appreciate what is wrong and what can be done to make you better so that, together, we can make informed decisions regarding your care. If at any time you have questions or concerns, I urge you to contact me via secure email through this home page or by phone.

What My Patients Say

Dr. Ahalt explained everything sufficiently and has been respectful and nice. Treatment has been going as well as can be expected. - JH

Dr. Ahalt has been very attentive to my daughter's needs and has reduced her pain significantly. I appreciate the fact that he is using alternative solutions before jumping straight to surgery. I think Dr. Ahalt is a big help! - CP

Dr. Ahalt is a very kind, intelligent and humble man. He performed a very delicate foot reconstruction for me that went very well. Dr. Ahalt was very skilled in motivating me to be compliant in my aftercare. I had a severely flattened foot that had deteriorated. I had extreme confidence in Dr. Ahalt because he showed me how the foot had deteriorated over time. And he said most of the hard work was mine in following his aftercare instructions. His three hours doing my surgery was not easy. He was a great coach of the surgical team and of the doctor-patient team — a rare combination. - DT

Dr. Ahalt is a wonderful doctor with excellent bedside manners. He repaired a 12-year ankle injury and has been extremely attentive to my every need and has answered every question (and there’s been a lot!) whether it was in person or via email. I am very happy in my recovery and I know I have the BEST doctor caring for me. Thank you, Dr. Ahalt. You’re amazing! - SJ
