Radiology

Radiology – or diagnostic imaging – is an important step in the detection and treatment of disease. Our highly trained radiologists use the newest technologies to detect and treat cancers and many other conditions. We use the same advanced level of equipment typically found in academic hospitals but in our convenient outpatient settings.

We know awaiting results can be stressful, so we work to reduce the wait as much as possible. Our integrated system and high-tech equipment allow our radiologists to perform and interpret imaging tests right away, meaning you’ll get your results quickly. All imaging studies are released to our patients via kp.org as soon as they are read by one of our experienced radiologists, meaning you’ll typically have your study results within two business days of your procedure. If you have a screening mammogram done during regular business hours, you’ll have your results in less than an hour. If your mammogram is performed on an evening or weekend, you’ll have your results by the next business day.

In addition to detecting disease, the Mid-Atlantic Kaiser Permanente Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Institute has specially trained interventional radiologists who perform procedures to treat many illnesses and conditions, using minimally invasive procedures guided by real-time imaging.

Experienced Radiologists

The Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Institute employs the best of the best, recruiting from top radiology residency programs in the country. Many of our radiologists completed fellowships in subspecialty areas. Our radiologists are leaders, regularly presenting at national conferences and holding leadership roles on radiology committees, societies and boards. All radiologists are board certified or eligible for board certification. Our award-winning radiologists have been honored on lists of top doctors and super doctors. The Kaiser Permanente Tysons Corner and the Lutherville Timonium medical centers are accredited by the American College of Radiology for cardiac MRI. This is the gold standard in medical imaging and demonstrates we meet rigorous standards for performing MRIs of the heart.

Collaborative Care Means You Benefit

Radiology in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

You’ll get access to high-level technology, the kind typically found only in hospitals, but in an out-patient, comfortable environment. Our three Interventional Radiology suites – in Tysons Corner, Largo and South Baltimore – offer state-of-the-art capabilities, allowing our physicians to harness the power of advanced imaging to treat complex conditions. Our other services include:

  • 3D mammography to look for breast cancer in women with no symptoms of cancer, leading to improved detection and earlier treatment.
  • Fetal (MRI) imaging tests to identify abnormalities in a baby’s brain, spine and body during the second and third trimesters.
  • Cardiac MR, a noninvasive test that does not use ionizing radiation, making it safe for children and pregnant women.
  • 3D-guided stereotactic breast biopsies to target and sample lesions that cannot be seen with standard 2D mammography.
  • Magnetic resonance lymphangiography, which is a highly specialized procedure offered at only a few academic centers across the country. The procedure helps locate the source of leaking lymphatic fluid. There is no risk of radiation exposure to the patient, unlike conventional lymphangiography.

I’m beyond impressed by Dr. Bandarkar’s expertise and bedside manner. She took time to explain each step she was taking during the imaging procedure, which greatly relieved my anxiety.

Dr. Staloch was so kind and patient when I had to get a barium swallow done. He was very reassuring and comforting.

I could not have been more blessed to have the team of women assigned to perform my biopsy this afternoon. I was a nervous mess beforehand. They both did such a fantastic job keeping me calm and comfortable.

- LD

I am very grateful to Dr. Sartip for identifying my breast cancer early through mammography. He also happened to do the breast biopsy the next day, which he did gently. He called with the results in a record two days, which then set the rest of my treatment in motion quickly.

- EC

Ever since Dr. Webber diagnosed me with breast cancer, I wanted to thank him for his kindness and care. He really showed a great manner and many kindnesses — calling me on Friday late, getting me the news as quickly and gently as possible, and just genuinely being incredibly humane.
