Cancer Survivor Stories: 2014 Cancer Survivors Day

Jun 01, 2014

Cancer Survivor Stories

Cancer Survivors Day is many things to many people. For one thing, it’s the day we hold our annual “Seeds of Hope” event and conference. It’s a day to think and learn about issues surrounding cancer survivorship. But – most importantly – it is a day to celebrate life.

Among the 12 different workshops that will be featured at this year’s event, two will focus on cancer survivors’ stories and their triumph over cancer. I hope you’ll join one of these sessions to hear first-hand how these cancer survivors coped with their diagnoses, treatment, and recovery.

These survivors’ stories, along with other stories, can be found in the Survivorship section of our website (see link below).

We hope these stories – from people who have had this same experience – will inspire you, provide guidance on coping with cancer and cancer treatment, and instill hope for your own journey.

As you read these stories, note that many are in a question and answer format to help provide feedback on these aspects of cancer diagnosis and treatment:

  • My initial reaction when I heard I had cancer was…
  • My treatment experience was…
  • The importance of self-care to me was…
  • The steps I took to manage my side effects were…
  • The areas of support during this journey were…
  • My road to recovery shortly after completing treatment…
  • My road to recovery 3-6 months after completing treatment…
  • A year after completing my cancer treatment…
  • My words of advice to those starting treatment…
  • My words of advice to those who are struggling with treatment…

We are adding stories all the time. At this time, you can find stories covering these cancer types:
