At age 17, I moved from Marin County to Park City, Utah where I completed a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Utah. In the midst of a successful career in International Marketing, I was compelled to return to school to study medicine. I felt it was important to contribute to my community and make a difference in peoples’ lives. Being a healthcare provider is a very intimate way to make an impact on an individual’s health and the community in which we live. I chose to become a Physician Assistant and attended Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, CA.
During my clinical rotations, I completed surgical rotations in general surgery, trauma surgery, breast surgery, and reconstructive plastic surgery. I received a Master Physician Assistant degree and am board certified with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and am licensed to practice in the state of California. I am grateful every day to be a Physician Assistant (“PA”) and to care for people of all walks of life.
I began my career at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. Then I joined Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire as a surgical physician assistant in Trauma & Acute Care Surgery. I had the opportunity to assist on many oncology cases and found my passion in breast and melanoma surgery. Being in the operating room is a joy and an honor. It’s an incredible opportunity to work with Dr. Lin and Dr. Neumann who combine art and surgery, providing patients with the best possible cosmetic outcomes. I am thrilled to be a part of the Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa Plastic Surgery team.
A physician assistant (PA) is a medical professional who works as part of a team with a doctor. A PA is a graduate of an accredited PA educational program who is nationally certified and state-licensed to practice medicine with the supervision of a physician. The PA educational program is modeled on the medical school curriculum, a combination of classroom and clinical instruction. PA education includes instruction in core sciences: anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, physical diagnosis, pathophysiology, microbiology, clinical laboratory science, behavioral science and medical ethics. PAs also complete more than 2,000 hours of clinical rotations.
PAs are trained and educated similarly to physicians, and therefore share similar diagnostic and therapeutic reasoning. PAs extend the care that physicians provide and increase access to care, improve coordination of care and can improve outcomes. For more information, please visit www.AAPA.org.
My responsibilities at Kaiser Permanente are to make sure you are optimized for surgery, assist in the surgery, and perform post-operative visits. My goal is to make sure you are safe, comfortable and have the education you need to recover well from your surgery.
