I was born and raised in Maine, and I migrated west after high school to escape the cold and long winters.  I have lived in the Bay Area for nearly 20 years and am thrilled to call San Francisco home.  I studied Psychology at Stanford University and received an MD from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) before returning to Stanford for my Internal Medicine residency.  After residency, I completed my Infectious Diseases training at UCSF and obtained an MPH from the University of California, Berkeley.

As part of my Infectious Diseases fellowship, I conducted research at the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies and have written papers that explore biomedical strategies for HIV prevention such as HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), HIV home self-testing, and HIV vaccines.  I also received a Fulbright Fellowship to conduct HIV prevention research in Sydney, Australia.

At Kaiser Permanente San Francisco, my clinical practice is largely focused on the management and treatment of HIV infection.  In addition, I work with patients at risk for HIV infection and explore how different HIV-prevention tools like PrEP may help to reduce their risk for HIV. With incredible improvements in HIV treatment in the past few years, much of the most important and rewarding outpatient HIV clinical care is now general primary care and prevention.  I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with patients to achieve their long-term health goals.
