I am a fellowship trained gynecological oncologist and specialize in treating ovarian, uterine, cervical, vaginal and vulvar cancers. My primary focus is surgical, but I collaborate closely with medical oncologists and radiation oncologists to provide the best outcomes in terms of cure and quality of life. The field of oncology has evolved significantly over the past decade and patients now have many treatment options which were not available in the years prior.
I was born in Poland, and emigrated to Canada and then the US, where I completed all of my training. I joined Kaiser Permanente Gynecological Oncology group in 2011 and I am thankful to be practicing in a place that offers state of the art technology, where I can prescribe and recommend evidence-based treatments without worrying about obtaining prior authorization. In addition to providing well established treatments, Kaiser Permanente also participates in clinical trials that can be offered to eligible patients. Clinical trial participation is important because not only does it help advance cancer care for everyone, but also provides an opportunity to receive promising treatments which may not yet be commercially available.
Here at Oakland, I collaborate with a fabulous team of gynecological oncologists, nurse practitioners and nurses, as well as colleagues from other surgical and palliative care departments, to provide the best treatment and support to our patients. We now perform most of the surgeries robotically, and this minimally invasive approach allows the patients to recover quicker and minimizes risk of complications. Our surgical center is high volume, and studies show that this also improves cancer treatment outcomes.
Outside of my clinical role, I am very involved in our residency program and education of the future generations of physicians and am a member of the East Bay Academy of Medical Educators.
